The road on both routes is good. Coming from Recife, you can do the entire journey by road (average 4h–4h30) or cut the route using the Porto de Pedras–Japaratinga ferry (generally 3h30–4h, depending on the queue). From Naay to ferry boarding is ~8 km (12–18 min). The ferry is safe; the crossing takes place on a calm river, is about 500 m long and lasts ~7–10 minutes (not counting the embarkation/disembarkation time). Check availability/timetables online before heading out.
